Four tours dedicated to those who like to immerse themselves in splendid natural settings on holiday
Doberdò and Pietrarossa Lakes Regional Nature Reserve
A few minutes by car from the Marina Julia Camping Village, between the municipalities of Doberdò del Lago, Monfalcone and Ronchi dei Legionari, in a Friulian protected area nestled on the Gorizia Karst, stands the Doberdò and Pietrarossa Lakes Regional Nature Reserve established in 1996. What makes this area of the region unique is the presence of two large karst depressions occupied by two lakes separated by limestone hills. The absence of wetlands all over the Karst has allowed the development of very rare natural environments in this area of the region which it is a pleasure to discover by walking along the paths that wind through the territory, among the habitats typical of arid environments such as moorland and furrowed fields, and wetlands surrounding the lakes.
Mouth of the Isonzo, between birdwatching and cycling in the heart of the Nature Reserve
Established in 1996, the Reserve which can be accessed on foot or by cycle paths, hosts freshwater marshes, but also vast salty wetlands, reeds, woods and meadows: the Isonzo mouth reserve is the ideal habitat for many animal species and in particular for birds, resident and migratory. Not surprisingly, it has been recognized as the best bird watching area in Italy. Its heart, the Cona island that hosts the visitor center, is one of the sites of greatest educational, scientific and naturalistic interest on an international level. The integrity of the area is guaranteed by constant environmental interventions and is also entrusted to the animals themselves, such as the Camargue horses that live free in the Reserve and help control the development of vegetation.
Collio Goriziano, a route along the Wine and Cherry Route
The journey to discover the beautiful hills of the Collio Goriziano, winds through a territory famous for its fine wines, the Collio Doc area, and for the production of cherries. It starts from Parco Isonzo, just outside Gorizia, and continues northwards through the nearby Parco Piuma, until it reaches Oslavia, where the vineyards still show signs of fighting in the First World War, whose victims rest in the nearby Ossuary.
Continuing along the main road you enter the hills planted with vines and cherry trees, up to the village of San Floriano del Collio, here it is worth stopping to visit the many different wineries, taverns and restaurants, where you can taste some of the best wines of the country including Ribolla Gialla del Collio, Sauvignon del Collio, Friulano del Collio, Pinot Grigio del Collio, Chardonnay del Collio and Cabernet Franc del Collio Doc.
The Grotta Gigante is the tourist cave with the largest hall in the world. It consists of a huge cavity and a 850-meter path. The excursion lasts about 1 hour and reaches a depth of 100 meters. The temperature is stable at 11 °. We advise you to access it equipped with comfortable clothes and sneakers.
